At the COP30 climate conference in Belém, Brazil, Opus for Peace contributor John Waller and Brazilian cellist and conductor Diego Carneiro presented the premiere performance of John’s original song, Do Something Now (Before It’s Too Late). The performance took place at the Environmental Sustainability Rotary Action Group’s (ESRAG) Digital Innovation Pavilion in the Blue Zone of the conference, where music became a powerful voice for the urgency of climate action. Written as a call to responsibility and collective action, the song reflects the growing role of the arts in helping translate complex global challenges into messages that resonate emotionally and inspire people to act.

The premiere performance was both intimate and symbolic. Surrounded by Rotarians, environmental leaders, and innovators from around the world, Waller and Carneiro delivered the song as a reminder that solutions to global problems require not only technology and policy, but also cultural engagement and shared human connection. The performance aligned perfectly with the spirit of Opus for Peace, which seeks to use music and the arts as catalysts for dialogue, awareness, and positive change.

Later that week, Diego Carneiro invited members of the Orchestra of the Palace of Peace to record the song, creating the musical foundation for a video production that will be completed in Connecticut. The upcoming video will bring together the COP30 performance, orchestral recordings, and visual storytelling to amplify the song’s message: that every generation faces defining moments, and ours requires action now.
